Ares BJJ Kids
Congratulations to all the Ares BJJ Kids who competed on Saturday. The event was held at Hassett’s Jiu-Jitsu Club in Sewell, NJ. This was the first time Ares BJJ Kids’ Program competed in a jiu jitsu tournament. Each kid demonstrated sound BJJ skills during the tournament against opponents who have been training for over a year. Ty and John closed out their brackets meeting at the end to determine first place. Ty on top taking first and John taking second place. Olivia went against a seasoned wrestler from Bullpen Vale Tudo almost finishing him with a triangle choke with seconds left, she lost by points. Olivia’s second match was against a boy who out weight her by 15 pounds. Olivia came out on top by points and took second place in her weight class. Jacob won his first match by using fundamental BJJ techniques to pass the guard, mount and going for submissions. Jacob match was a tie except that Jacob won by an advantage point. The advantage point is giving to a competitor who attempts a submission but does not finish the submission. Jacob with seconds left went for an Americana(lateral keylock) giving him the advantage and win. Jacob lost his second match to a Guillotine choke which was deep, he took third place. Honorable mentions go out to Steven and Carson. Steven gave up almost 30 pounds to a seasoned competitor from Bullpen Vale Tudo. Carson demonstrated defensive BJJ skills taught in class and never gave up. All the Ares BJJ kids had a learning experience in their first tournament. Keep up the hard work because jiu jitsu is not a destination, it is a journey.
I would like to thank the parents that showed up to support their children and team. The trip was a long haul but definitely worth the experience for the kids. I would also like to thank you for not being “that” parent shouting and screaming at their child while competing on the mat. Spending quality time with your children during these events are memories that will never be taken away.
